CEU Information

IHMP encourages graduates to complete 40 CEU's (Continuing Education Units) every four years beginning February 1, 2008. That's an average of 10 units per year. For all CHM's prior to 2007, the first 4-year CEU completion date is February 1, 2012. Please note: Certified Healing Musicians are required to keep and safely store CEU documents. IHMP will make a notation of CEU's as they accumulate, but will not keep copies. There may be time when alumni will be audited their number of CEU's. It is important that the graduate keep accurate records. You may submit CEU documentation as you go.

 

What qualifies for CEU'S?

A CEU is based on “seat hours” as defined or assigned by the workshop or conference organization, or assigned by IHMP to each event. With exception of music lessons, book reports, as well as certain presentations or workshops delivered by a CHM. CEU credits may come from other certification programs and independent organizations.

IHMP accepts CEU's from other accredited certifying programs and honors their CEU credits. In particular, IHMP welcomes CEU events sponsored by accredited programs listed in on National Standards Board for Therapeutic Musician directory.

Additionally, IHMP stands open to review the efficacy of other independent organizations for potential CEU credit as long as there is an outstanding objective which directly enhances the work of the Certified Healing Musician and falls under the mission of IHMP. CEU's may also be considered for hospital, hospice and nursing home in-services training.

 

How an IHMP Alumni May Receive CEU's

 

Directly From IHMP

IHMP sponsors CEU events online. See the Webinar Schedule for more choices. The IHMP sponsored Webinar's will continue to grow with various online events. If you are a graduate of IHMP, your CEU credit will automatically be logged into your records upon completion of CEU upon successful completion of the Webinar.

From Other Accredited Programs

  1. Contact the program to find out how many CUE credits are allowed for their graduates. That number is honored by IHMP. Download and print the Certificate of Completion for CEU Hours form.
  2. On-site event/conferences which are pre-approved for IHMP CEU credit are sponsored by: Music for Healing and Transition Program biennial conference; International Harp Therapy biennial conference; Vibroacoustic Harp Therapy Training Course; and Clinical Musician Home Study Course. Many of these programs also sponsor CEU's at other conference venues.

From Other Venues

  1. Venues are considered where in-service training, as in hospitals; workshops affiliated with other types of conferences such as, conferences for musicians, healthcare, and science related conferences are a great way to advance your practice as long as the workshop has an outstanding objective which directly enhances the work of the Certified Healing Musician and falls under the mission of IHMP. But you must apply for pre-approval to recieve CEU credit.
  2. Down load the CEU Credit Application , fill it out, make a copy (always keep originals for yourself) and send the copy to Stella Benson c/o IHMP, for pre-approval. The application will be reviewed; you or the venue sponsor may be contacted for additional discussion and verification. Upon acceptance of the application you are free to attend the event and recieve CEU credit.
  3. While onsite, contact the event intructor. Explain that in order for you to receive credit for attending; you need the instructor to confirm attendance and sign the Attendance Certificate which shows that you attended the entire event valued at the seated hours. .
  4. Submit a completed Attendance Certificate copy to IHMP. Please keep the original copy for yourself.

From Music Lessons

IHMP recognizes that musical skills may be advanced through continued study of musical technique and methodology. Thus, graduates have the dual opportunity to advance their musical skills at the same time collect CEU's. From Book Reports

The world is constantly changing and one way to stay abreast with these changes is to keep up with the most current reading material. The well-read CHM benefits when curiosity is quenched and new ideas are stimulated by other new ideas. IHMP encourages alumni to read regularly and use this reading time to gain additional CEU's.
